The Garden Party Fundraiser will be a highlight of the 2013 season.  VIP guests, gardeners, and food enthusiasts will  enjoy the Camden Children’s Garden in all its seasonal splendor.  Guests will explore the Garden’s education, horticultural exhibits under the stars, and browse the Silent Auction while enjoying an enchanted evening.  In 2013, our theme will be CAMDEN GROWS TO FIGHT HUNGER to address the continued mission and to celebrate our new USDA Entrepreneurial Agriculture Program CAMDEN GROWS and Fresh Mobile Market that is scheduled to launch Spring 2013. The Fundraiser Garden Party will feature Mexican-influenced, locally grown appetizers, cocktails, buffet dinner, followed by delicious deserts. “The Tortilla Press” Chef and owner, Mark Smith and wife Lydia Cipriani, are known for fighting hunger, featuring South Jersey grown produce. The Silent Auction is a highlight of the Garden Party Fundraiser, with guests invited to bid on a wide variety of donated items from regional attractions and merchants – highest bid by the end of the night , wins!  Download Event Flyer and Donation Form!

The Champions of Children Awards will honor notable individuals, foundations and corporations who work tirelessly on behalf of children and Camden, NJ. The Awardees are: Honorable Governor Christine Todd Whitman, Congressman Robert E. Andrews, NJ Senator Diane Allen, Camden Councilwoman Dana Burley, Camden Councilwoman Deborah  Person-Polk, 1st Colonial Bank President Gerard M. Banmiller and Whole Foods Market.

The Camden City Garden Club (CCGC) is continuing to Fight Hunger and Obesity in Camden, NJ, which is the one of the poorest, most dangerous US cities and also “Top 9 Food Deserts”, according to the USDA.  The  CCGC’s Community Gardening Program is “perhaps the fastest growing in the US” (according to University of Pennsylvania Study). Since then, CCGC has tripled the number of gardens: 120 community gardens, 100 family gardens, and 12 school gardens.  Now, the CCGC is helping at least 12% of Camden residents who eat fresh food from the gardens, producing an estimated $2.3 million in fresh produce each year, according a report by Domenic Vitiello, a University of Pennsylvania professor who has researched urban agriculture in several cities. In 2013, we are planning to continue this important work!

This year, we celebrate: 29 Years of Community Gardening in Camden—your contributions, helped residents to grow their own fresh produce, on Camden’s thousands of vacant city-owned lots.  Your support enabled 24 years of the GrowLab Program in Camden schools, and 19 years of serving at-risk Camden youth through the Youth Employment & Training Program.  Your donations also help support the Camden Children’s Garden, now in its 14th year of providing a place for families to explore and discover the natural world.  The Camden Children’s Garden, the center of educational programs and the hub of CCGC, is a place where FOOD EVENTS are growing: Food Security Advisory Board, Family Festivals, “Ground to Grill” Events, Cooking Demonstrations by partner Whole Foods Market, nutrition education and environmental stewardship.

We depend on the many individuals, leaders, foundations and corporations that support our efforts.  You can help! We offer several donation opportunities  – see the next page for details and form to complete. Proceeds from this event go directly to CCGC’s programs and operations.  The CCGC is a (501)(c)(3) environmental and educational non-profit organization.  Your contribution may be tax-deductible. Please consult your accountant regarding advertising and charitable gifts.  Thank You for your Support!
