• CAMDEN RESIDENTS LEARN STRATEGIES OF NATION’S FOOD/HEALTH ISSUES   To respond to the recently released information, USDA Food Desert Locator: Camden, NJ, one of the Top 10 American Food Deserts, the Camden City Food Security Advisory Board, hosted from the Camden Children’s Garden, invited Professor Domenic Vitiello of the University of Pennsylvania, to discuss different strategies to address Food Security, Obesity and Hunger in Camden, NJ. In addition, Vitiello discussed his findings from study of Camden, NJ and several other cities working towards food security.

• Kids Grow Healthy Food!    Many Americans are distressed that Congress is not giving children healthy school lunches despite the growing obesity epidemic. KIDS IN CAMDEN, NJ ARE GROWING THEIR OWN FOOD!!!   The Grow Lab Program gives Camden school children Hands-on Nutrition Education, growing food in classrooms while learning health, science, math and horticulture!  GROWLAB SALAD PARTIES are the highlight of the school year for students, faculty and Camden Children’s Garden staff, who instruct the GrowLab Program weekly in Camden classrooms.

• Passyunk Community Garden by RACHAEL RAY & Friends      A month before Ty Pennington and Rachael Ray cut the ribbon, opening Philadelphia’s newest community garden to beautify a Philadelphia tourist attraction, the staff at the Camden Children’s Garden received a call-to-action from RACHAEL RAY producers. In just a few weeks, an empty lot was transformed into a beautiful food-producing garden this garden and  “Steak Street”, Philadelphia was the taping location for the RACHAEL RAY Show & 6ABC’s Great Philly Grill-Off.  To ensure the community garden’s future sustainability, CCGC/CCG was enlisted to engage and educate community gardeners and oversee “HARRY O’s Passyunk Community Garden by RACHAEL RAY & Friends”.

• Fighting Hunger & Obesity with Campbell Soup – Campbell Soup Company and Camden Children’s Garden are Fighting Hunger and Obesity in Camden, NJ.  The CCGC staff is in the midst of building a raised-bed garden at Forrest Hills Elementary School – the location of the Campbell Soup Co’s February unveiling of their $Ten-Million Plan to Reduce Childhood Obesity & Hunger in Camden, NJ, and today the school is thriving with nutrition/horticulture education.  Courier Post: “Recipe for healthy kids; soup maker fights obesity”.  STAY TUNED FOR 25 MORE GARDENS IN 2012!
